What are the benefits of a dual fuel towel radiator?
The benefit of a dual fuel towel radiator is they give the user more flexibility and they are more energy efficient in the summer months, when central heating is not required!
Can the element be switched on when the central heating is on?
Yes it can however this is not very energy efficient. Normally the element is only used when the central heating is not in use for example during warm summer months!
How do you use the dual fuel element?
When the central heating system is not in use and the towel radiator is required for warming - drying towels then the element or dual fuel system can be used. Please note the flow and return radiator valves must be closed "turned clockwise - off" and always make sure the radiator is primed of water before the element is switched on!
What valves do i need for Dual fuel radiator?
Standard towel radiators have the "collectors" - flow and return on the underside of the towel radiator. To enable the element to be inserted at the bottom of the towel radiator the "T piece supplied" would require either an angled valve or a corner valve. The none element side would need a straight valve or corner valve, depending on where the pipes are installed! Your plumber will advise you what valves you need if you are using a dual fuel system!
Are there any problems with a dual fuel system?
The main problem with using an element to heat the towel radiator on a central heating system is that when the central heating system is switched off, the radiator could become air locked or may not have enough water in the towel radiator, especially if there is a leak in your central heating system. This could cause the element to burn itself out and or blow the fuse if their is insufficient water surrounding the element. Therefore when using the element ensure the flow and return valves are closed "Turn Clockwise" and ensure the towel radiator is primed with water before switching the element on! Please note when reverting back to central heating ensure valves are opened back up "Turned Anticlockwise"!
