We recommend installing all thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs) on the flow pipe rather than the return. However, when used alongside a system automatic bypass valve, these bi-directional TRVs can be fitted on either the flow or return in any orientation. It's important to note that automatic bypass valves are a mandatory requirement under current building regulations for all new heating system installations and boiler upgrades. They ensure TRVs function correctly and help prevent issues like radiator hammer.
